| The commercial aircraft manufacturing industry is dominated by two competitors; EADS NV (Airbus) and Boeing. It is a business fraught with very high product development costs, high risks, and deferred profits. The risks are increased because there are so few customers. If major airlines are not pleased with the finished product, sales will never be enough to cover costs. Sales of a new plane must be in the hundreds before the fixed costs of design and development are covered. |
